Owen is throwing us for a loop with his rashy/ezcema skin and potential food allergies...but is otherwise as happy as a clam, rolling all over the place to get into whatever catches his eye.
He's starting to vocalize a lot more...most often Bababababa but I'm thinking mommy will come any day now! I also think he'll be army crawling or scooting somehow soon enough. He appears frustrated when he can't get to something out in front of him and he ends up rolling over in the effort to move forward. Solid food is on our radar too as he approaches 6 months but I might wait a week or two until he is sitting more steadily.
He's growing out of 6 month clothes and growing into size 3 diapers, although I'm guessing he's going to be small on the weight scale again at his next appointment.
Things they've said and done recently:
Tyler-
Chuck E. Cheese = Chuckie Cheese-its (he's gone to 2 birthday parties there this year for friend's who have turned 5 so I also think he's going to request to go there for his 5th birthday party this summer!)
A research project at school about beluga whales
Grant-
"Auntie Kristen lives at the airport"
Learned how to do somersaults at tumbling class with Grandma Marilyn
AND Grant is potty training (I think...he has been more challenging than Tyler ever was in this arena, but I think he's getting the hang of it to some degree)
Stir fry is sometimes called Happy Family on restaurant menus...so here's our family and our life's adventures. . . . . Photo: Sunrise on the morning of July 15, 2013

Half Birthdays
Tyler is 4.5 and Grant is 2.5...closer to 5 and 3 now which has me wondering where all those years went!
Tyler is thriving in his preschool class- we had our first of many parent-teacher conferences this week and Tyler's teacher had nothing but good things to say! It made us feel like maybe we ARE doing something right! She also said he is definitely ready for kindergarten- both academically and socially- which surprised us because he's always been our somewhat timid and reserved first born. Even though he is "ready" according to his teacher, we are going to wait another year to send him so he'll be the older one in his class as opposed to the younger. I am already looking forward to next year when Owen is a little more sturdy and mobile and we can do things with all 3 boys together before Tyler starts school full-time.
Grant is as stubborn as ever- I THINK Tyler displayed some of these characteristics at the exact same age but I also think Grant is going to push his limits in ways that Tyler never has. Tyler followed rules before we even had to say what the rules were...Grant, on the other hand, pushes most rules just to see what he can and can't do. It's hard to believe he's 2 and I have to remind myself of that on a daily basis. He does whatever Tyler does (or at least attempts to) and he has basically no awareness that he's littler/younger/etc.
And Owen is rolling over! Back to belly but not the other way around which is not how the other 2 did it and is not typical from a development standpoint but that's his first real physical milestone and the excitement of seeing him do it for the first time reminds me how fun this first year is when all the new things start happening- sitting, crawling, standing, walking. We are fighting the good fight with Owen and his rashy/excema skin...I am cutting out certain common allergen food groups (dairy and wheat for 10 days now, and corn for 2 days) which is easier said than done but all in hopes of finding what might be bothering him. He wakes up a lot and isn't a great sleeper but my perspective is so different this time around...I keep catching myself saying "it's only a year" or "it goes so fast" that I might as well just rock him to sleep tonight too!
Trying to take this winter in stride, we're staying home more these days than we ever have and while it can make for some long days it is also fun to see what the boys get wrapped up in throughout the day. Tyler is all about construction and legos and building. Grant does that stuff too because thats what his brother is doing but he is also coming into his own in the puzzle department and also asks to read lots of books...which I also remember Tyler doing at the same age (puzzles and books). They are both still enamored with Owen and they have also watched me "take care of him" enough to often know what he needs and when he needs it and how to make him smile/soothe him if he's crying! I can't wait to see how this grows as he gets older and they become 3 peas in a pod instead of 2.
